Varietal Focus: Verdejo


Castilla y Leon is located in the northwest corner of Spain, just east of Portugal’s Minho region.  It is a continental climate and surrounded by the  Cantabrian Mountains and Pyrenees and interlaced with major rivers.  Much of its territory consists of a large, central plateau – the Meseta.

Verdejo wines are aromatic, often soft, and full-bodied.   The Verdejo grapes are generally harvested at night for less oxidation and discoloration.  Typically herbaceous, with almond skin and oil, nice acidity and weightiness.   Floral aromas with flavors of honey, apple, and citrus. Medium body with mild acidity.

Spicy Chorizo bean stews, asadas (stewed meats), empandas and Manchego cheese.
